Improvised Knife Sharpening Guide

Thinking on how to keep the knife blade at a constant angle during the sharpening against a sharpening stone or sandpaper, I came up with this simple guide that can be improvised using 2 bolts with round heads, 4 nuts and 4 washers (thick and strong ones). I am pretty sure that this isn’t a new idea and I have only reinvented the wheel! 🙂  Here are some drawings I made using Google SketchUp 7:

Foarte ingenios. Initial vroiam sa cumpar un device asemanator dar acum m-am razgandit 🙂

Good idea but how do you sharpen the tip of the knife with that? As it curves, it wont even touch the sharpening stone.

    • Yes, the tip cannot be sharpened that way! This was my first try to get a device that can help in sharpening of knives. In the meantime I understod that our hands is the most universal device! The precision will come in time, by training! 🙂
      Thank you for the comment!

You could use a wooden block that gives you the sharpening angle you need, and slide the blade on it. The thinner of the wooden block’s edges should be slightly thicker than the sharpening stone. Unfortunately, this will use (or overuse) only part of the sharpening stone.

      • E o varianta si asta cu blocurile de lemn… Desi in timp inveti sa ti destul de constant unghiul, fara nici un ghidaj…
